Since being built in 1935, the hotel has been the destination for the fashionable society coming to the region to soak up the European custom of Taking the Waters. Today the iconic heritage exterior belies the modern elegance within. Located on the upper floor of the original hotel, the 14 design-led, air conditioned Hotel Rooms are a beautiful representation of timeless country grandeur and charm; featuring delightful historical touches such as traditional sash windows, non-standardised room dimensions, fluffy throws, elegant ceilings, original timber balconies and architraves.
The gardens at Peppers Mineral Springs Retreat are recognised as some of the most picturesque in regional Victoria. Weaving throughout the five acres on the property, these award winning gardens include a formal miniature hedged maze, Neptune pond, hidden Bay Tree sanctuary and pebbled avenue lined with majestic Poplar trees. Tucked into one corner of the hotel, behind a concaved wooden pagoda over a pebbled path, the 10 Garden Rooms are a natural extension of the garden. Little wooden cottages divided into two rooms, intertwined with growing Pencil Pines, Willow trees, Pittosporums and Native fauna; each Room with their own small private terrace at the front, complete with outdoor table and chairs. The Spa Garden Rooms also feature an intimate outdoor spa on the back terrace.
Contemporary Superior Rooms enjoy views of mature, Australian native landscaping, in the North facing end of Peppers Mineral Springs Retreat. Sitting beneath and in the same style, just smaller in scale, as the Mineral Spa Villas, the Contemporary Superior Rooms are uncluttered, warm, comfortable and simply relaxing. Casually stylish and spacious rooms, flooded with natural light and detailed in native hardwoods.
Decorated in a contemporary palette of coffee and cream, with luxury bathrooms, pillow-top mattresses on King sized beds, upholstered headboards, and feather down duvets, fluffy throws and ambient mood lighting. Notable feature of each room is that as well as having an en suite bathroom, there is also a two person Aero spa, tucked in an alcove of the bedroom, with wooden louvered windows and private views overlooking landscaped gardens and maturing olive trees. French doors lead on to a private balcony.
Using a simple palette of materials, such as corrugated iron, concrete and timber, the design of these self- contained one and two bedroom two storey Villas is optimised for its surrounding native Australian landscape, the sweeping views of Doctor’s Gully and comfortable luxury. Mineral Spa Villas can easily convert from a one bedroom to a two bedroom villa.
Inside, the spatial open plan concept of the main living area maintains an easy natural flow between kitchen, dining and lounge. Rustic, patina surfaces, including some villas with heated concrete floors, coexist with layers of textures; from oversized plush rugs to soft fur bed throws, plush cushions and deep leather sofas. Temperatures can be adjusted for your comfort with split system air conditioning (heating and cooling).
Built in 1864, this magnificent two storey, Grade 1 heritage listed Villa, has the feel of an Italian stately family home, surrounded by manicured formal Italian gardens, a lily pond, and miniature hedge maze. Arrive at the regal front door of this elegant property via a pebbled garden path. The front of Villa Parma overlooks a formal boxed hedged garden with flower beds that change with the seasons, with a bougainvillea at the front gate, looking splendid in flower from spring through to end of summer. At the back of the villa is a bougainvillea covered, outdoor dining and entertainment area, complete with a large BBQ and adjoining sauna chalet. Around the other side is a large pagoda wrapped with grape wines, overlooking the villa’s private grass garden terrace.
As is tradition with palazzo style villas of this period, the front door opens onto the dining room, with a large antique wooden table and chairs sitting under an elegant chandelier. Tucked in behind the dining room, is a compact modern kitchen, equipped with fridge, dishwasher, stove, oven, and full set of cooking essentials, utensils and crockery, for guests to cook for themselves. Or gourmet meals can be delivered from Wild Birch Dining Room, just minutes up the pebbled path.
